G3 Boats used-boat buyer's guide
What G3 is on the used market
G3 is Yamaha's house aluminum boat brand — welded jons, bass and deep-V fishing boats, and the SunCatcher pontoon line, every one of them rigged with a Yamaha outboard from the factory. The 7,500 hulls in our sample make it a solid second tier of the aluminum market, positioned against Tracker and Lowe on price but with the engine brand as its calling card.
Known issues to inspect
The hull checklist is standard welded aluminum: transom and keel welds, floor plywood on older models, livewell plumbing on fishing layouts, and tube condition on SunCatcher pontoons. Build quality is consistent if unspectacular — G3's all-welded construction has produced few systemic complaints.
The engine is the asset: a factory-rigged Yamaha with dealer-traceable history is the single best reason to pick a used G3 over an equivalent Tracker. Run the serial through a Yamaha dealer for service and warranty records, and weight your offer heavily on what comes back — on a $15K boat, the difference between a documented and undocumented outboard is most of your negotiating range.
Resale and value character
G3 resale sits just above the volume brands, propped up by the Yamaha pairing — buyers searching used aluminum frequently filter by engine brand, and that funnels demand to G3 disproportionately. Depreciation is the familiar aluminum pattern: a drop to the floor, then years of stability. A clean G3 with a documented Yamaha is one of the easier used boats in America to resell.
