Blue Wave used-boat buyer's guide

What Blue Wave is on the used market

Blue Wave is a family-owned Texas builder (Seminole, TX since 1993) of fiberglass bay boats — the Pure Bay and Pure Hybrid lines — with a concentrated Gulf Coast following and 5,900 hulls in our registry sample, the bulk of them in Texas. In its segment it competes with Shallow Sport, Majek, and Shoalwater for the serious inshore angler, a tier above the mass-market bay boats.

Known issues to inspect

Bay boats live in skinny water and salt: inspect the hull bottom and tunnel (where fitted) for oyster-reef rash and prior gelcoat repairs, check jackplate and transom bolts for stress and corrosion, and test every livewell and raw-water pump — plumbing failures are the segment's chronic small expense.

Salt-air electrics age fast: work every switch, light, and gauge. Most Blue Waves wear Yamaha or Suzuki outboards; pull dealer history and verify flushing discipline (corrosion at the midsection and steering tells the truth). Confirm trailer brakes and bearings — saltwater-dunked trailers fail young.

Resale and value character

Within Texas and the Gulf Coast, Blue Wave resale is strong — regional reputation is real currency and clean Pure Bays move quickly. Outside the region the brand is little-known and prices reflect it, the same geography effect as Xpress: a buying opportunity out-of-region, a selling constraint if you relocate. Documented engine service plus visible hull care is what the local market pays up for.
